Once upon a time, in 1978, a small building with eighteen units nestled in the heart of Hollywood, Florida, was then called the “Bello Condo”. Surrounded by a tropical patio, this place already welcomed travelers seeking sunshine, but it was still just one modest building among many others.
The Arrival of Richard’s Family of Lodgings:
A Vision and a Challenge
In the 1990s, a young Quebec entrepreneur, a graduate in general administration from Cégep de Limoilou, arrived in Hollywood with a thirst for adventure and unwavering determination. He began acquiring the Bello Condo units one by one, often from Quebec owners eager to move on. The process was long, sometimes fraught with pitfalls, but he stopped at nothing. Thanks to financial support from the Caisse populaire Desjardins, he managed to gather all the necessary resources and gradually transformed the Bello Condo into a true haven for Quebec snowbirds.
The Birth of Richard’s Motel Studios:
A New Chapter
Once all the units were reunited, the site was renamed “Richard’s Motel Studios” and became part of the Richard’s Family of Lodgings. It was no longer just a condo building, but a warm and welcoming community space where guests felt right at home. The site’s reputation quickly grew: here, French was spoken, Quebecois food was served, and the same familiar faces were found every winter, generation after generation.
A Quebec jewel, unique in its kind:
Originally from Quebec, Richard’s Family of Lodgings is today a true flagship of Quebec entrepreneurship in Florida. The story of Bello Condo is another success story of Quebec’s entrepreneurial spirit, born from a passion and expertise acquired while attending Cégep de Limoilou. The site has been enriched over the years: tropical gardens, life-size statues (alligator, bald eagle, elephant, giant moose imported from Canada), swings from Victoriaville, a heated pool, shuffleboard court, barbecues, a security camera system, a modern laundry room, and ample parking.
A vibrant Francophone community:
At the heart of this oasis, social life is in full swing: Manny’s Cantina offers Quebec specialties, friendly gatherings, and a variety of activities punctuate the seasons. A resident ambassador ensures everyone’s well-being, and the staff is available 24/7. Three times a week, a shuttle takes vacationers to the beach.
A precious legacy and an exceptional offer:
Today, Richard’s Motel Studios is one of the most treasured jewels of the Richard’s Family of Lodgings: a “Little Quebec” in Florida, a symbol of perseverance and vision, perpetuating the spirit of hospitality, sharing, and conviviality that is the pride of all who stay there.
“Here at Richard’s Motel Studios, every winter, the gardens, patios, pools, and swings fill with Quebecers happy to be together under the South Florida sun.”
